Everything You’ll Need to Know

BTSD offers the following plans through BMCS – Aetna. Your assigned benefits will populate at the time of enrollment:

  • BMCS Open Choice 1 / BMCS Open Choice 2
  • BMCS Open Choice 3 / BMCS POS

The Prescription Plan coverage is tied to the medical plan selected. The new prescription carrier, effective July 1st, is National Cooperative. There are no changes to the plan design, only the carrier is changing. Also, the formulary will change. The new carrier will be sending correspondence to employees regarding these changes. You must be enrolled in medical to participate in prescription coverage.


Vision: Bensalem Township School District is pleased to provide this information about your vision care plan administered by Davis Vision, Inc., a leading national administrator of vision care programs. Eligibility for vision care benefits is determined by the same rules that apply to your health care benefits.

Medical Health Care FSA: This benefit allows you to save pre-tax dollars in an account that can be used to pay for medical expenses such as deductibles, copays, prescriptions, and some over-the-counter drugs. The maximum contribution is $3,300 per year. You have access to the full amount on your coverage effective date. There is a $640 carryover with a 90-day grace period after the plan year ends to submit a reimbursement request. 

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account: Like the Medical Health Care FSA, this benefit allows you to deduct pre-tax dollars from your paycheck and deposit them into an account. The funds in a Dependent Care FSA can only be used for expenses for children under the age of 13, such as preschool, summer day camp, before and/or after-school programs. This account can also be used for adult daycare, or home health care for a disabled spouse or elderly parent, etc. The maximum contribution is $5,000 per year. The DCA is a use-it-or-lose-it benefit, and unused balances do not roll over to the next plan year. However, there is a 90-day grace period after the plan year ends to submit a reimbursement request.

Short-term Disability: This benefit is based on 66-2/3% of salary with a weekly benefit of $920. The benefit is the greater of 30 days or the length of the accumulated sick leave.


Long-term Disability: This benefit is based on 66-2/3% of salary with a maximum monthly benefit of $3,500 and provides income in the event you are disabled and unable to work.


Employer Paid Life and AD&D: As an employee of Bensalem Township School District, you are automatically enrolled in the Basic Life and AD&D, which is paid for by BTSD. The benefit amount is based on a percentage of your salary. This benefit is portable and convertible. Please update beneficiary information during your enrollment call.


Voluntary Supplemental Life: You are also eligible to enroll in Voluntary Life for yourself. Benefit amounts are in increments of $25,000, up to a maximum of $100,000. There is no AD&D included in this benefit. Please update beneficiary information during your enrollment call!


Employee Assistance Program: Your employer offers you an EAP program through Quantum Health Solutions, providing you with assistance on issues such as marital or emotional problems, stress and depression, legal and financial matters, anxiety, etc. Their 24-hour number to access these services is 877-747-1200.
